Ceramic form · Stick incense use · Quiet scene object
A fisherman sitting on a rock, a line in the water that isn't there. Light incense and the smoke becomes the river. That's the whole trick.
The Maker
A Jingdezhen studio that specializes in figurative ceramics — small, detailed, hand-molded pieces that sit on a desk and make you pause for a second.
The Place
Jingdezhen, Jiangxi. Where small-batch porcelain studios share walls and kilns. The creative density here is unreal — walk down any alley and you'll see someone painting, carving, or glazing.
The Craft
Hand-molded stoneware, not slip-cast — the figure is shaped from soft clay, then detailed with a needle tool. The incense hole is drilled before firing at 1,200°C. The glaze is a reactive iron-oxide formula that shifts between warm brown and mossy green. The fisherman's rod is where the incense stick goes — the smoke rises from the tip like morning mist over a lake.
At Home
On the desk where you need a reason to look up. On the nightstand where you need a reason to slow down. Light incense, watch the fisherman fish, breathe.
