Before you open it, you already know the tea inside is serious. The lid seals with a whisper — that's a thousand years of craft fitting together.
The Maker
Master Chen's celadon studio sits at the edge of Longquan, beside a creek that powers the pug mill. He makes canisters that seal airtight without any gasket — just precision-turned rims and the weight of the glaze.
The Place
Longquan, Zhejiang. Celadon country. The dragon kilns here once fired tribute pieces for the imperial court. Master Chen's studio is built on the same slope as one of those old kilns.
The Craft
Each canister is thrown in two parts — body and lid — from the same batch of clay, so they shrink at the same rate in the kiln. The celadon glaze is applied in three dips, each thinner than the last, to create depth without dripping. Fired at 1,280°C in a reduction kiln, the iron in the glaze turns that distinctive plum-green. The lid fits so precisely it creates a partial vacuum when you lift it.
At Home
Keep your best tea in this — the airtight seal protects freshness better than any tin. On the shelf, it looks like a small monument to taking tea seriously. Which you should.
