It's a ceramic stand for eggs, fruit, or whatever else needs elevating. Simple? Yes. The kind of simple that takes years to get right.
The Maker
A small ceramics studio in Jingdezhen makes these in batches of thirty. Each one is hand-molded — not cast — which means every curve is slightly different. The potter says the imperfections are the point.
The Place
Jingdezhen, Jiangxi. The porcelain capital. Even the street food vendors here serve on handmade ceramics — that's how deep the craft runs.
The Craft
Stoneware, press-molded by hand, then dipped in a reactive glaze. The glaze contains iron oxide that creates unpredictable color shifts during firing — warm browns, sudden greens, occasional flashes of blue. No two stands match. The feet are left unglazed, showing the raw clay underneath.
At Home
In the kitchen holding eggs or fruit. On the dining table as a centerpiece. In the bathroom holding a soap dish. It elevates whatever sits on it — literally and aesthetically.
