VOID & HERITAGE: About Us
VOID & HERITAGE
VOID & HERITAGE Where Eastern Heritage Meets the World
I grew up in the Northwest of China, where the Silk Road isn't history — it's the dust on your boots, the rhythm of the drums, the taste of the air before rain.
For years, I worked in tourism, trying to bring people closer to these living traditions. I took them to the caves of Tiantishan, to the Taiping Drum festivals in Lanzhou, to places where culture hadn't yet been smoothed into a souvenir. But something kept gnawing at me.
The visitors wanted cheaper. The industry wanted faster. And the traditions — fragile, irreplaceable, deeply human — kept quietly disappearing.
I couldn't stop that alone. But I could do something smaller, and maybe more lasting.
Void & Heritage began as a question: what if the objects that carry this culture could travel further than the tourists ever did?
Every piece in this collection is chosen because it holds something — a craft technique passed down through generations, a material shaped by the land it came from, a way of making things that refuses to be hurried. These are not decorations. They are fragments of a living culture, made to be used, and made to last.
I'm Mingkai. I curate this collection from Chengdu, with the Northwest still in my bones.
The culture doesn't have to disappear. It just needs somewhere to go.
The journey has just begun.
