The spout isn't decorative. It's the moment you realize this bowl was made for people who actually whisk matcha — not just photograph it.

The Maker

Liu Wei throws every bowl by hand in his Jingdezhen studio. He studied tea ceremony in Kyoto for two years before returning home. He says Japanese chawan taught him restraint; Chinese porcelain taught him precision.

The Place

Jingdezhen, Jiangxi. Porcelain capital of the world for a thousand years. His studio is in an old factory building in the Sculpture Factory district — walk outside and you'll hear the sound of a hundred wheels spinning.

The Craft

The spout is pulled from the bowl wall while the clay is still wet — not attached later. This means the pour is seamless, with no interior ridge to catch residue. The interior is left unglazed in a broad band at the base — the rough surface helps build foam when whisking. The exterior glaze is a satin white that shows the shadow of whatever's inside.

At Home

Whisk, pour, drink. The spout lets you share directly from the bowl without a secondary pitcher. It also makes the best salad dressing bowl you'll ever own — but that's between you and the bowl.
